Opara/Opada/Uppada:
India is dotted with numerous traditional weaving centres. One such centre is the small beach town Uppada in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh known for its famous Opara (also known as Opada / Uppada) silk sarees.
Opara silk sarees are perfect blend of tradition and style. Made from carefully dyed quality silk yarn in jamdani type traditional and unique weaving technique, Opara silk saree is one of the brightest members of the family of Indian traditional handlooms.
I am not a great fan of Opara sarees. Somehow, they don’t appeal much to my senses. But this one is different. I purchased it many years back from one of the large stores in Gariahat. It was costly and looked so as well. But I think it is perfect for my persona. Don’t you think so?
